Monica began her career as a fine art photographer, specializing in candid portraiture of children and families. %expanded-mobile%

She used only film and darkroom techniques, and all of her images were taken in black and white. As digital photography advanced, she remained committed to film in order to bring a timeless, old world sensibility to a new generation of families. She never asked children to pose, instead capturing their most candid and natural moments. One such moment was the image of a young girl peeking through an iron gate, and it was a photograph that came to be identified with Monica's photographic style. The image would also serve as inspiration in the early years of our jewelry collection, when we introduced our Gate Locket and ultimately our Gate Collection.%expanded-desktop%

These locket necklaces were a unique and innovative design that had never before been used to create lockets of any kind. The front piece was created in a scrolled gate motif, and it was positioned atop two photo frames. That front “gate” was designed to swivel right or left to reveal the photo that was discreetly “peeking through the gate.” This new locket design was among the very first in our collection and it became one of our most popular gold lockets and silver lockets virtually overnight. Over the years, the collection was expanded to include new gate motifs in a variety of shapes – rectangular, oval and round – that were also extensively accented with stones like diamonds and pearls. This range of styles, chain lengths and available metals – 18k gold and sterling silver – now allows for many choices and styling options.
